The Enterprise card is a
superset of the Commuter Card, offering DTMF “touchtone” detection so that
incoming calls may be automatically routed or so that recorded messages
can be retrieved remotely from disk. The Enterprise card also features
the option to include the use of several logical channels of X.25 connectivity
over the D-channel of the ISDN Basic Rate Interface. The optional X.25
or packet connections can be used for sending small messages or control
signals from the computer to remote equipment. Simple messages to the host
system or another peer, such as a code to call back with file information
on a customer, can be sent while both B-channels are active with other duties.
This allows an incredible variety of network connections for enterprises,
particularly those “home-based” enterprises of the twenty-first century.
