- Select a Layer
- In order to change a border or layer, it must be selected. Select a layer from the list or click directly on a border.
- You don't need to use all the layers. To eliminate a layer, set its size to zero on the slider. It will disappear entirely when the code is made.
- Select a Size
- Change the border width by slowly moving the slider. You can watch the border dynamically change.
- You may also change the border width using the text field right below the slider. Type in the size you want and hit the Enter key on our keyboard. If the enter key doesn't work for your browser, click the Apply button.
- Select a Color
- Change the border color by clicking a color on the palette. The colors will dynamically change on your border if you hold down the mouse button while slowly dragging your mouse across the palette.
- Just about any color can be displayed by first choosing the mid-range color from the palette and adjusting it lighter or darker on the color bar.
- A dropdown list of named colors is also available if you are trying to match a color by its name.
- You may also change the border color using the text field next to the palette. Enter the color you want and hit the Enter key or click Apply.
- When typing a color code, you may use hex color codes ( #4A8862 or #486 ), RGB color codes ( url(150,220,95) ), comma delimited RGB colors ( 150,220,95 ), and color names (pink).
- Select a Background Tile
- Background tiles are purely optional.
- Click a tile to apply it to a selected layer.
- To remove a tile from a layer, select the layer and then use the "No Tile" button.
- Many of the tiles are transparent and the underlying color will show through. Because of their transparency, they enhance your design and color flexibility. When using an opaque tile, be sure to set an underlying color first, so that the color will display if your tile fails to display.
- Add your own Background Tile
- This tool allows you to enter your own background tile for any layer. Your tile must be hosted online to use it as a background. It's URL will look something like https://www.myhost.com/mypic.jpg
- Select the border to make it active.
- Paste the URL for your tile into the long text field below the palette. Hit the Enter key and you will see your background on the active layer. The layer will remain active, so you may enter a different URL and hit Enter again.
- After you get the results you want, and move on to the next layer, your tile will also be temporarily added to the tile list so that you can use it again. Up to 20 tiles may be added to the list.
- Opaque background tiles will obscure a layer's color, so be sure to select the color prior to adding your tile.
- To remove a tile from a layer, select the layer and then use the "No Tile" button.
- 3D Border Shadows
- A checkbox allows you to switch between 3D borders and flat borders. It does not affect any other features and no layer needs to be selected.
- Start Over
- The "clear" button below the layered borders will clear out the borders so that you can start over. It won't clear out custom tiles that have been added to the tile palette - only a page reload will do that.
- Make HTML Code
- The "Make HTML" button will generate HTML directly from what you see on the screen. With each change, you can generate new code and then continue making more changes without losing any data.
- When you choose the default option to make page borders, the borders are set to 100% to fill the screen, as with auctions. When you select picture frames, the borders will shrink down to fit the interior contents, ideal for framing photographs.
- Hotlinking
- Using images on your page that are loading from some other site is considered "hotlinking".
- We have created all of the tiles in this tool, and they are all quite tiny. Therefore we allow hotlinking to them from your border code, as long as the code maintains the acknowledgment that is automatically placed there. Hotlinking is not granted to designers selling templates.
- You may copy the tiles onto your own server and change the links in the code to your own server.
- If you are using tiles from other sites, please check with the site owner regarding linking, since hotlinking will cost the owner in bandwidth usage.
- Because our graphics are tiny, we can offer an embedded option for the background tiles we supply. This tool can convert our tiles to base64 format that can be embedded directly in the code, eliminating the need for server hosting. A checkbox selects the embedded option. This conversion option is not available for graphics linked from other sites.
- Problems?
- A color or tile won't take? This could happen if data is typed into a field and the Enter key is not recognized by the browser. The "apply" button should be used in those cases.
- Color won't replace a background? This is normal for table code. If your tile is opaque, the underlying color won't show. So you can set a color, but can't see it unless you turn off the tile using the "no tile" button. You can reselect the tile after setting the color.
- Selected a tile and it won't show? In Internet Explorer and Opera, there is a screen-refresh lag time. It is also apparent when gliding over colors if the selected layer contains a background tile. The browser must rewrite both the new color and the images to the layers. The tile will eventually appear.
- Slider or colors are sluggish or jerky? When the page first loads, all of the background tiles are also downloaded. During that time, the browser may be too busy to handle the dynamic actions.
