Program Differences

The Help pages describe the desktop program. Template tagging of the markup file is identical for both the Desktop and Web versions of TagBot, so files created on one system should port to the other, with these exceptions:

Program differences:

• The desktop program supports installation files and designer files that modify the program appearance and that facilitate installation of files. These features are not available in the web-based version.
   
• The desktop program allows user-edited slot data to be merged back into the markup file. The web version has no such feature.
   

Onscreen differences

• The file tagbot symbol "+" is only supported by the desktop program. A desktop file can't be loaded by the web program. The user is instead given the option to paste the contents of the file into a slot. Similarly, a web-based file can't be loaded into the desktop program.
   
• Image tiles in the desktop program use relative paths to graphics stored on the local computer. These are not available to the web program, so relative images display only an image name in the image tiles. If absolute paths to online graphics are used in the desktop program, the tiles will not display in the desktop editing fields. Using one or the other method may pose a problem on the editing page, but not in the final outcome of the generated HTML file. Test your HTML file to make sure the method you choose generates a full image URL in the final HTML.
   
• File size limitation. The desktop program can process a file up to 32K bytes or characters long. The desktop version also has a limit to the number of slots that can be presented on the Edit tab — the size is limited to 32K pixels tall, so skinnier slots and fewer spacers and wrappers can help there. The Web version has no such limit. Be careful when creating a file online and using it within the desktop program.
